Blackjack Variants
There are many different types of Blackjack played both online and in casino halls. Here is a summary of the most popular types of Blackjack.Variants
Spanish 21
In Spanish 21 you can play very flexibly, for example you can double down any number of cards (as well as choosing to 'rescue', or surrender only one bet to the house), you may get a bonus for hands that make 21 that contain 5 or more cards, or a total of 21 made from 6-7-8 or 7-7-7.
Generally speaking, all of these frills are a side show and the important thing to know is that Spanish 21 generally has a higher house edge than standard blackjack, so we recommend that you keep it simple and stick to standard blackjack.
Double Exposure Blackjack
In Double Exposure Blackjacki both of the dealer's cards are dealt face-up. Blackjacks pay out 1:1 and you lose a tie. Again this increases the house edge.
Double Attack Blackjack
In Double Attack Blackjack you can up your bet once you have seen the dealerīs face up card. Again blackjacks only pay even money.
Vingt-et-un
A French variant (literally Twenty-one) is a type of blackjack in which you canīt split your cards. An ace only counts as eleven (not 1), but two aces count as a Blackjack.
Chinese Blackjack
Chinese blackjack is a variant popular in Asia- you canīt split your cards.
Blackjack Switch
In Blackjack Switch, you are dealt 2 hands and are allowed to switch cards. Eg, if you are dealt 10-3 and 10-2, you can switch two cards to make a hand of 10-10 and another of 6-5. Natural blackjacks are paid out 1:1 instead of the more usual 3:2, and if the dealer gets 22 it is a push.
Tournament Blackjack
Following hot on the heels of Tournament Poker, comes Tournament Blackjack or Elimination Blackjack. You enter tournaments either with a fee or for free if it is a freeroll. Players are eliminated when they lose all their chips. The last player standing takes the top prize.
